Grant Opportunity

REGIONAL INITIATIVE GRANT
Applications now accepted.
Deadline July 23rd.

The Connecticut Office of the Arts (COA) developed this project grant in partnership with its nine Designated Regional Service Organizations which make up a valuable statewide service network. The Regional Initiative grant program (REGI) is a good fit for applicants primarily interested in small projects that support access to the creative process and/or creative experience, especially those projects that experiment with new ways to apply the arts within community. Grant projects can take many varied forms: engage in a specific community matter, reflect on personal experience, bring neighbors together, etc.
We strongly encourage representatives in Western Connecticut to apply, including arts organizations, municipal art departments, artists, arts programs of 501c-3 non-arts organizations, Pre K-12 schools and PTO's. See complete list of eligible applicants below.
Eligible Applicants:
  • Artists
  • Arts Organization with 501(c)(3) status with annual operating income under $300,000
  • Arts Programs of a 501(c)(3) non-arts organization
  • Municipal Arts Departments - all levels (A,B,C)
  • Pre-K through 12 schools
  • Parent Teacher Organizations (PTO)

Marci Tomascak

Marci invites you to take the arts tour!
This weekend Sat. June 27 and Sun. 28, Dragonfly Studios has been invited to the Northwest Connecticut Arts Council's sixth Annual Open Your Eyes Studio Tour in the towns of Washington, Roxbury, Morris, and Bethlehem, CT. Since we are in New Milford, we were graciously invited to participate at our friend and fellow artist Larry Livolsi's hot glass shop, Lorenz Studios in Morris. Sadly, our friend Larry passed away recently but the studio will be open in his honor. He will be sorely missed.

The tour will feature 27 artists and artisans who have their studios in Washington, Roxbury, Morris, and Bethlehem. Visual artists and artisans open their creative spaces and show their processes to the public during the days of the tour. Dragonfly's Markis Tomascak will be at Lorenz Studios working on a stained glass piece of art. Come on down and see the artists at work!

The aim of Open Your Eyes Studio Tour is to shine a light on the many artists who live and work in our region, to give the community a greater understanding and appreciation for the arts and the creative process, and to draw attention to the towns in which these artists live and work. For information about Open Your Eyes Studio Tour go to openyoureyestour.org or contact the Northwest Connecticut Arts Council at (860) 618-0075 or maggie@artsnwct.org.
Attendance is free and information about the party is available on the event website. http://www.openyoureyestour.org/ Free Ticket Packets can be ordered through the website and include a map, directions sheets, and convenient sign-in stickers.

Alissa DeGregorio

Alissa wrote, "I don't often talk about my work on here but I just got the sweetest package in the mail from Good Grief, the non-profit I do design work for. They sent me all the hard copy print samples of the work I've done so far this year and a lovely thank you note.

Good Grief helps children and families after the loss of a loved one, at no charge. It's wonderful working for a company that is doing good in the world. I love my job (and my other job title, mommy, of course :)

Bridget Grady

Our friends,Alex and Becky, at the Shirt Bakery have cooked up  one of my designs to be featured on their Swedish Dishcloths. The dishcloths are made from recycled materials and byproducts, are 100% biodegradable, and can last up to 12 months! A single Swedish dishcloth can replace 17 rolls of paper towel!!
Keeping in the spirit of the Plight of the Pollinators  that we held in the past to support environmental education programs at Flanders Nature Center and Land Trust, we will be donating partial proceeds from the sale of this particular design to the Xerces Society.

Go on over and visit their new website shirtbakery.com designed by my amazingly talented husband Jay Foster:)!

You can support local artists, business and the Bees! by purchasing your eco-friendly dishcloth HERE on the Shirt Bakery site.

Alain Picard

Alain's piece from the Paint-A-Round is on the far right.
Thursday, June 4, 2015, Alain Picard took part in the Paint Around where 5 top notch pastelists take the stage and they all paint on all 5 paintings. He writes, "Such a hoot to watch the paintings
develop....and change dramatically with each new artist working on them. The 5 artists were: Terri Ford, Tony Allain, Alain J. Picard, Marla Baggetta, and Stan Sperlak.
