Workshop: Collage and More with Bob and Mary Lou Alberetti

Please join us for a three-day workshop of collage and mixed media, and bees- wax finishes for all skill levels, at the Alberetti Studios in New Fairfield, CT on October 9, 10, 11. Sessions are from 10 am - 4 pm, with lunch included. Choose 1, 2 or 3 days.

In this workshop taught by both Bob and Mary Lou Alberetti, we will explore some new and exciting techniques using transfer methods and photograph-alteration, as well as exploring the "cut, tear and paste-collage" - fumage-montage traditions used by Schwitters, Picasso, Max Ernst, Romaire Beardon, Honelore Barron, Robert Rauschenberg and others. Using a variety of cast-off papers, new printed and plain papers, cloth, string, receipts, maps - the detritus of everyday life - that can be cut and pasted, each student will create finished collages which may also be used as a starting point for works in other media. Tear and repair, photomontage, sliced typography, transfer, abrading, puncturing, distressing and suturing are many of the techniques that will be demonstrated and employed in this workshop. We will experiment with bees- wax finishes. We will explore subject matter ranging from landscape, to still life, to cityscape, or create a portrait, or an abstract piece, or any subject of your choosing.

Emphasis will be given to technique, composition, contrast, and color relationships. An investigation of collage through a series of exercises will develop the artist's awareness and potential of this unique art form. We will provide the basic materials but encourage you to bring your favorite tools or materials. You are encouraged to bring, or send ahead, some digital photos you might like to include in your work.

The three-day workshop fee is $90 per person per day. Please note we are limiting the class size to 12. Please call 203-746-1321to register
