KAREN BARTONE, “TONDO ART: AN INTIMATE EXHIBITION OF MINIATURE PAINTINGS.

Founded in 1966, Middlesex Community College is part of the Connecticut State Colleges and Universities System.

In the Niche:

Karen Bartone’s series of tondo paintings employ the traditional round panel format and the Italian Renaissance combination of oil paint and gold leaf.  Picturesque subjects of reflected water lilies, trees, sky and rippled water dislocate viewer’s sense of specificity as they are composed within closely cropped peephole perspectives.  The small scale and circular shapes here similarly reference telescopic and magnified slide compositions in as much as the direct landscapes they represent.

Bartone lives in Clinton, CT and holds an MFA from Western Connecticut State University and a BFA from the Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts.  See more of her work at http://karenbartone.com/Karen_Bartone/Home.html

Eileen Tavolacci

Eileen writes, "On Sunday 1/26/14 from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. I am having an artist reception at the Comstock House in collaboration with Sotheby's International Realty of Ridgefield, CT. The Comstock House is located at 203 Redding Road (Route 107), Redding, CT. (Coming from Route 7, it is on the left immediately after Umpawaug.) Built in 1807, this was the home of William Comstock: Redding’s first postmaster. The warmth of this beautiful antique colonial is an interesting marriage with my abstract oil paintings displayed throughout the house. Stop by to say hello and have a glass of wine!"

Artists Workshop - Pricing and Presenting your atwork

Fairfield University is set to host a career development workshop for Connecticut artists this week.  The university will host "Pricing & Presenting Your Artwork" as part of the Make.Art.Work., Career Strategies for Visual Artists program at 6 p.m. Jan. 15.

Silvermine Arts Center’s Gallery Director Jeffrey Mueller will lead the workshop. Mueller is set to give artists the opportunity to explore essential business skills by walking artists through the process of pricing and presenting work, in a step-by-step method that "demystifies these often challenging subjects," according to a release.

"Participants will learn the necessary questions to consider that are essential components to their success as self-employed artists," representatives said in the release. "A variety of financial formulas will also be introduced which can help artists price their work."

Make.Art.Work. Project Manager Jeannie Thomma will offer a look at how to present on paper and develop effective artist statements and resumes.

The MAKE.ART.WORK. program is presented by the Arts Council of Greater New Haven, Cultural Alliance of Fairfield County, and Greater Hartford Arts Council, with support from the Emily Hall Tremaine Foundation. Those who are interested in the workshop are asked to contact David Green, David@culturalalliancefc.or or Jeannie Thomma, Jeannie@makeartwork.org.
