LINCOLN PORTRAIT COPY , $8000 PURCHASE AWARD

With the generous support of the Sachem Fund, the City of Norwich, CT announces a competition to select a painting to replicate a portrait of Abraham Lincoln, painted by John Denison Crocker (1822-1907), c. 1890 and stolen from City Hall in 1994.
The Slater Memorial Museum, Norwich Historical Society and Norwich Arts Center will provide scholarship, administrative and programmatic support for the project.

Artists wishing to view Crocker’s portraits may visit Norwich City Hall where portrait work by John Denison Crocker may be viewed daily in the main center hallway. Additionally, a CD of images of the original portrait, plus portraits by John Denison Crocker in the Slater’s collection may be obtained through the museum for a fee of $5.00.
