Bass master plays at WestConn

Being right is overrated, according to master bassist John Patitucci.
"I try a lot of different things and learn by trial and error," he told students at Western Connecticut State University last week as he prepared them for an evening concert in which he'd play with a half-dozen small jazz groups. "I've learned a lot by doing it wrong."
But in talking to the students, Patitucci stressed one of the essential qualities of jazz. Quoting another bass great, Rufus Reid, Patitucci said the best music is made "when people agree."
