Dan writes, "As many of you know by now our friend and colleague, Jimmy Greene, lost his beautiful daughter, Ana Grace Marquez-Greene, last week in the horrible tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School. The response, and offers of assistance, compassion ...
and love toward Jimmy and his family have been overwhelming. In the wake of the unthinkable loss of his daughter, Mr. Greene has requested that in lieu of gifts and flowers, a scholarship fund in the name of Ana Grace Marquez-Greene be established at Western Connecticut State University's Department of Music. Jimmy's wish is that Ana Grace's love for music live on through helping others. This gesture of love and compassion from the Greene family in their time of greatest need comes as no surprise to anyone who knows them. If you would like to contribute to the Ana Grace Marquez-Green Music Scholarship Fund at Western Connecticut State University, please click the link below. Thank you all, and please keep the Greene family and all of the families of the victims of this tragedy in your hearts."

Call for Artists - The Mercurial Gallery
Calling all Couples! The Mercurial Gallery Seeks Artists in Love By The Mercurial Gallery
The Mercurial Gallery in downtown Danbury, Connecticut is in the process of forming its 2013 couples exhibition. We are seeking artist couples to celebrate Valentine’s Day in a truly romantic and creative way – having a show together! Don’t let the thought of a Valentine’s show scare you away; this will not be your typical tacky “love” show. We are not requiring that artists work collaboratively, but would prefer for the couples to work both independently and collaboratively. No medium restrictions.
Please send your artist statements and images to: info@themercurialgallery.com

ACCESSIBLE ART 2013 CALL TO ARTISTS
The Cultural Alliance of Western Connecticut invites area artists to submit entries for the 2013 Accessible Art Project. The collaboration between the Cultural Alliance, participating venues, and selected artists is designed to increase opportunity for art in public spaces. It is also an opportunity to increase awareness with local businesses. Entries will be juried and selected for 2013 exhibitions at five locations: the Danbury City Hall Exhibit, CityCenter Danbury, Danbury Museum & Historical Society for a special exhibit to run Jan - March, ESCAPE to the Arts, and The Upstairs Gallery at Molten Java which will host several exhibits during the year. Electronic submissions will only be accepted. The deadline for entries is January 4th.
The Accessible Art Project has a simple goal: to offer visitors and residents a range of quality artwork, in a variety of casual, if not unusual, and friendly places. The Accessible Art Project welcome first-time art buyers and avid collectors to a juried selection of emerging and established artists with a variety of media, styles and subjects at a range of prices. The different venues help to eliminate barriers between the artist and the buyer, making art buying more accessible.
“The Accessible Art Project offered more than 25 exhibits in 2012 and approximately 700 people attended opening receptions,” says Lisa Scails, Executive Director of the Cultural Alliance. “The exhibits help to foster interaction and to build a community of artists and visitors, which strengthens community and the economy.”
All artwork is available for sale and exhibits rotate approximately every six (6) weeks throughout the year. Exhibit hours for the participating venues will be announced.
For a full prospectus and to submit entries visit www.artswesternct.org. Questions about the prospectus call 203-798-0760 or email info@cawct.org.

Adrift In Macao Auditions
TheatreWorks New Milford, New Milford
4 men, 3 women
December 10 and 11, 7:00pm - 9:00pm at TheatreWorks
Adrift In Macao, Book and Lyrics by Christopher Durang
Music by Peter Melnick
Directed by Bradford Blake
Nominated for the Drama Desk Award for Best Music, Adrift in Macao is a hilarious musical parody of classic film noir movies. Everyone who comes to Macao, China in 1952 is waiting for something, and though none of them knows exactly what that is, they hang around to find out. The characters include your film noir standards, like Laureena, the curvaceous blonde, who luckily bumps into Rick Shaw, the cynical surf-and-turf casino owner her first night in town. Then along comes Mitch, the American who has just been framed for murder by the mysterious villain “McGuffin.” With songs and quips, puns and farcical shenanigans, this musical parody is bound to please audiences of all ages.
All actors must be confident singers. Although there are no real dance roles and no intense choreography in the show, it would be helpful for the actors to have a dance sense when it comes to approaching the physicality and musicality of the characters. Most important is a good sense of comic parody.
Come prepared with 16 bars of an appropriate musical theatre song or a popular song from the 1940s or 1950s that fits the comic ilk of a film noir parody. Bottom line: choose something that best shows your vocal range and dexterity.
Readings will be available at the auditions.
Cast Descriptions
Lureena - (alto) a nightclub singer who arrives in Macao with nothing, hoping to find a job and forget her thieving ex-boyfriend; Attractive, perhaps a bit jaded, unlucky in love. She is our leading lady. She’s “a good egg”… she’s been through a lot, a tad cynical but still a romantic at heart. Perhaps a mixture of Ava Gardner, Rita Hayworth and Jane Russell.
Mitch - (tenor) a private eye searching for Mr. McGuffin, an elusive character who framed him for murder; masculine and rugged and existentially tired. A bit brooding, he is running from something… or to something? He is the film noir hero who doesn’t speak easily and keeps his secrets well hidden. A Robert Mitchum type.
Rick - (bari-tenor) the shady nightclub owner; sleazy and dabbles in some illegal stuff. The second male lead. Classic film noir character who knows how to use a fedora, a cigarette and shadowy lighting.
Tempura - (bari-tenor) an Asian man (or is he really?) who works for Rick . Very TEAHOUSE OF THE AUGUST MOON sort of subservient character… but maybe he’s really the smartest person in the show…?
Corinna - (mezzo) the current singer at Rick's who loves to be the star of the show and doesn't like to be ignored; the second banana role. Jealous and seductive.
Trench Coat Chorus - one man (baritone) and one woman (mezzo) who play many roles in the show such as bartender and cigarette girl, mysterious man and mysterious woman, crazy man and crazy woman, deranged man and deranged woman, ambiguous man and ambiguous woman... the list goes on and on. These roles require actors capable of jumping from one stock character to another in a flash. Proteans who do the work of dozens.

Call to artists - RGA
Resolution 2013 Prospectus- CALL TO ARTISTS
Ridgefield Guild of Artists, Ridgefield
Important Dates:
Receiving: Friday, Jan. 11–Sun., Jan. 13, 12–4pm
Opening Reception: Sat., Jan. 19, 4–6pm; snow date: Sun., Jan 20, 4–6pm
Pick Up of All Art Work: Sun., Feb. 17, 4pm, Mon. & Tues., Feb 18 & 19, 12–4pm.
Resolution isn't just a word for the effort we might make at the beginning of the year to lose weight or recycle more. Resolution can also refer to a conflict, for example, within the artistic process, which has been brought to conclusion-or not! Our art-making presents us with many challenges, and this members-only show seeks art that reflects the ways the concept of resolution applies.
Up to three entries in any media may be submitted. Wall-hung art must be wired and ready for hanging; sculptors must supply their own pedestals if necessary. Work cannot weigh more than 150 lbs., or be larger than 60 inches in any direction. Artists might be asked to set up unusual installations.
For each entry, please write a description of the resolution referred to in the work. You can write one sentence, or a paragraph, but not more than 150 words. The writings will be displayed along with your art. We have found that visitors to the Guild actually do read the written pieces, so please take the time to explain your work and draw your viewer in.
Please download the entry form from the web site (when available) and bring it to the guild. Also, email and attach a separate Word file for each work you submit to: rgamembershow@gmail.com. Name each file as follows: last name firstinitial short title.doc. Each document must include your name, the title of the work, the medium, and the price typed on separate lines, followed by your statement. Please do not use any special formatting within the document.
For example, the text for a single entry would look like this:
Maggie Smith
Breaking the Barrier
Acrylic
$700
The description of wind and water in the medium of paint has been an ongoing challenge in my work in the last 25years. Finally, I figured out how to represent these elements so that….etc, etc….up to 150 words!
The title of this document would be: smith m breaking.doc. If you have any questions about this, please contact the Guild.
The entry fee is $10 per piece. The standard Guild commission rate is 40/60% for all sales of art exhibited in the show.

Blue Mountain Gallery showcases the gallery artists in “Points of View” December 1-22 with a reception Saturday, December 1st from 3 to 6 pm. While any work of art is an artist’s point of view, the works in this exhibition focus on that quality. The pieces include interpretations of microscopic forms, expressive manipulations of unusual angles of vision, playful placements of figures whose points of view contrast with that of the artist and more abstract presentations of a visual experience. Reflecting the broad range of artistic approaches, the literal positions taken include a range from precarious to stable, and the kind of details varies from carefully detailed to highly abstracted and expressive. The exhibition includes sculpture, prints, drawings, mixed media and paintings.
Images of over 22 works from this large group show can be previewed at www.BlueMountainGallery.org

Pop Up Art Bethel’s holiday show
Fine Arts and Crafts at Pop Up Art Bethel’s Second Run By Pop Up Art Productions
More than sixteen local artists are on display at Pop Up Art Bethel’s holiday show, hosted by local residents Frank Kara and Michael Seri from November 24 through January 6.
The first Pop Up Art Bethel show in June, 2012 was a huge success, said Kara, and convinced him and Seri to do it again in December.
“Lots of people are unaware just how much really good art is being made in the area,” said Kara. “This show gives everyone a chance to see the kind of creativity that goes on in Bethel. Plus, people who come to the gallery might find the perfect, locally made holiday gift. Can I say that art is the gift that keeps on giving?”
Pop Up Art Bethel is housed in a building that was formerly a sign shop. The wide, open space with its white walls and lots of natural light lends itself perfectly for displaying a variety of artistic mediums.
Pop Up Art Bethel is located at 161 Greenwood Avenue, across from Bethel Cinema. An opening reception will take place on Saturday, November 24 from 5-8 pm. Regular gallery hours are Friday and Saturday from 2-9pm and Sunday noon-7pm. For more information, call (203)994-2756.

Casting Call invite from Cint Nejame
CASTING CALL!!! CALLING ALL DHS PRODUCTIONS STUDENTS AND ALUMNI!!!!!
If you are interested after reading this, contact Michelle (address
below) Send her a head shot and resume or just list your experience
however brief....This is a very reputable source and could result in
some great opportunities...
We are looking for local talent to
cast for our staged reading of the screenplay. The movie will film this
summer and any actors cast in the reading will have the opportunity to
audition for the movie. We are located in Danbury, CT.
What is truly
unique about this story is the opportunity to see the power of an
educational program taught by a dynamic teacher and how the scope of
those important lessons can ultimately shape and sometimes change lives.
In this story we see the manifestation of those lessons through the
eyes of our main character and how the impact of those lessons change
decisions and impact other lives over the course of the film. The
character education lessons utilized in this film were developed by Tim
Salem, our screenwriter, and subsequently shared with colleagues in the
Greater Danbury area.
We are also looking for some adult roles. If
you should know of any adult, or student that you feel would be
interested in any of the parts please contact me ASAP at:
Michelle@Our8s.com
Description:
Casting a staged reading of a new screenplay.
The film is a coming of age journey for a teenager who is struggling to
find his identity. This inner turmoil puts him into direct conflict
both at home and in school. His journey intersects with five other lives
that are also dramatically altered as a result of their relationship
with him. The character of the teacher is the inspiration for the main
character to truly follow his heart and make the decisions that are
right for him, despite being pulled in different directions by loved
ones and friends.
Character descriptions:
Ty: (male) African
American, Attractive, Athletic 16-18 yrs. Ty is bright, insightful,
seemingly confident on the outside but struggling to find himself;
conflicted initially caught in the web of popularity but slowly that is
peeled away as he begins sees the world differently.
Kory: (female)
Caucasian, 16-18 years. Extremely intelligent but not always confident
enough to show it, somewhat withdrawn from the "in" crowd and still
struggling to cope w/ Mom's untimely death and her Dad's issues.
Tiffany: (female) African American, 16-18 years. Beautiful, above
average intellectually, but her intelligence is lost in her own
narrow-minded view of the world in her eyes it is the "have's vs the
have nots" she also relishes in her own popularity and enjoys being
cruel.
Cal: (male) Caucasian, mid 40’s/early 50’s Struggling to cope
with the loss of his wife and his responsibilities to his daughter;
genius doctor who cannot seem to get back into a "normal" routine. His
uncanny instincts as a doctor made him revered by colleagues.
Trevor: (male) African American mid 40’s-early 50’s. Ty’s father. Rose
out of the depths of poverty to become an extremely successful
businessman; however, he has forgotten his roots in the process as well
as the empathy that accompanied that progression. Puts him in conflict
with Ty.
Mrs. Laws: (female) mid 40’s-early 50’s. Deeply caring
teacher who's singular goal is to make her students more empathetic,
compassionate and widen perspectives she cares for the personal success
of all students, putting their needs ahead of her own. Internally she
struggles with the loss of her husband and is still ashamed about how
she treated him initially; which fuels her desire to "do right" by kids
even more.
Adele: (female) African American. 40s. Doting housewife
and Mother who follows her husband's lead out of loyalty; but is
conflicted as she sees her son growing/changing unfortunately, she waits
too long to make her voice heard.
Emory: Ty's trusted best friend.
Loyal, strong personality recognizes the unbelievable talent Ty posesses
(perhaps more so than Ty!) the type of friend most would want in their
corner. Good athlete but not in the caliber of Ty; and he is ok with
that.
Braden: AA Lanky, Attractive. Outstanding athlete Very trendy.
Needs to center of attention and trying to "make a name" for himself.
Arrogant, cocky, unfriendly. He is conflicted between allowing himself
to become a super-star athlete vs the brazen and bold lifestyle of the
gang. Attracted to Tiffany.
Caitlin: Caucasian. 16-18. Kory’s best friend. Supportive friend. Caitlin is gay and bullied about her sexuality.

Where Creations Faced Destruction
By ALLAN KOZINN
Published: October 31, 2012
The first thing you noticed walking through the streets lined with art galleries between 10th and 11th Avenues in Chelsea, on Wednesday, was the constant, undulating roar of generators, and the hoses, in clumps of three or four, snaking out of just about every gallery, from which cold water that had come flooding in from the Hudson River now gushed into the street. But if you peeked into the darkened galleries — no one here had electricity — you got a sense of the toll Hurricane Sandy has taken on the district, an important part of the arts economy.

‘Crown of Clowns’ Illustration Exhibit Opens November 3 at The Mercurial
By Amanda Bloom
‘Crown of Clowns’, a tag team, artistic extravaganza by illustrative painters Andrew Werner and Jeff Buckholz, will be underway at The Mercurial Gallery in downtown Danbury, Connecticut from November 3 through December 14. The gallery and artists welcome you into an archaic abyss that would knock the cigarette filter from Hunter S. Thompson’s lips were he with us today. Werner and Buckholz’s illustrations will lead you into a world of emotion, narrative, and psychedelia that will, without a doubt, incite deep notions of wonder and excitement. Both artists’ originality compliment their shared love for immediacy and line.
An opening reception for ‘Crown of Clowns’ will take place at the gallery on Saturday, November 3 from 7 to 9pm. An artist talk will take place mid-exhibit on Wednesday, November 21 at 6pm, and Ben Simon, a Brooklyn-based musician who makes his own guitars stocked with keyboards, drum machines, and even microphones will perform at ‘Crown of Clowns’ on Saturday, December 8 at 7pm.

Artists breakfast request
Good morning!
I co-chair the upcoming
Business Supports the Arts Breakfast, hosted by The Cultural Alliance
(HVCA). I am a fine artist, own an arts school, and as well, create
public art. I write to you, artist-to-artist, with news of funding
possibilities for artistic endeavors by all of us. I'd like to inform
you that the breakfast this year will be of specific interest to
individual artists that now have newly developed opportunities to
partner with cities, towns and corporations to create art motivated by
us, the artists.
Response to The Cultural Alliance's invitation to
attend the breakfast has been astounding this year, in big part due to
the key note speaker, Kip Bergstrom, the Deputy Commissioner of our
state's Commission on the Arts. Not only his commission, but Kip
himself, deeply believe in and recognize the importance of the
individual artist in the big picture of Placemaking, and Economic
Development. His keynote address at the October 29, 2012 breakfast is
sure to spark the imagination and feed the motivation of all of us with
regard to the funding opportunities being made available directly to
artists.
My partner Bruce and I received one of 7 grants
made available to artists by the Commission on the Arts this year,
partnering with municipalities, in the City Canvases initiative. It
has been a phenomenal, creative, innovative experience to work with the
state on this project. I urge all of you as artists to make a point of
attending this breakfast to gain a full understanding of the back story
of the opportunities that await motivated artists that pursue the many
new avenues being presented to our creative community! As well, you
will hear firsthand the definition of creative placemaking and economic
development with respect to the arts.
The cost per ticket is $30. There will be
entertainment, music, an impressive raffle, a most unique, delicious
breakfast menu and the chance to not only be inspired by Kip Bergstrom's
comments but also more knowledgeable with regard to your
own artistic success. You can email me for further information if you
have any questions!
Don't hesitate! You must reserve your place by visiting http://events.r20.constantcontact.com/register/event?oeidk=a07e69kmr7w876b8301
The breakfast is right round the corner and at this point seating
is limited. I know personally how vital being informed of these
opportunities is, so I hope to see many of you, my fellow artists, at
this event!
-- Joanne Hunter
Eileen adds, Dan Goble will be one of the speakers.
