Our thoughts and prayers are with Eric's family and friends.
Eric David Sengelen, 36, beloved son of Charles and Judith (Patren) Sengelen, peacefully passed away at home in Bethel on February 28th. He was born in Danbury on July 14, 1975, and graduated with Bethel High School's class of 1993. Eric fought a year long battle against cancer with tremendous courage and an admirable inner strength. Besides his parents, he leaves behind both his twin brother Jason Sengelen and big brother Carey Sengelen of Danbury. Holidays and gatherings with his extended family members were especially meaningful to him. In addition, Eric truly valued his memories of, and times spent with, his life-long friends. In the end, Eric's eternal optimism enabled him to never give up hope during his journey with illness.
Eric graduated from Western CT State University in 1999 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in illustration, at which time he was also awarded the WCSU Antonio Albertti Award for Excellence in Painting, the WCSU Most Promise in Watercolor, and honorable mention at the CT State University System Student Art Exhibition for his various works in acrylics. Up until 2010, Eric was a self-employed residential painter and artist. He was awarded the Golden Palette Award for Excellence in Painting from the Watertown Art League (2001) and was also an illustrator for the Hat City Entertainment newspaper from 2007-2009. Eric always made the time to contribute his artistic talent to community organizations when needed.
