ESCAPE to the Arts Art Gallery

CALL TO ARTISTS

The Art Gallery at ESCAPE to the Arts is accepting entries of art work for the upcoming juried exhibition The Faces, Places & Spirit of Our Community. Artists are invited to submit up to 2 original works of art for consideration by our selection committee.

The exhibition is open to local and regional artists working in the following media: oil, watercolor, acrylic, pastel, graphite, printmaking, photography, ceramics, sculpture and mixed media.

The exhibition will run from October 1 to November 2, 2012 in our 400 sq ft gallery within ESCAPE to the Arts at 293 Main St. Danbury, CT.

Submission Guidelines

Artists must submit the following:
 Non-refundable Entry Fee: $10 for one entry; $15 for two entries. Cash or check payable to Regional YMCA of Western CT.
 One or two original works of art created within the last 2 years (ready to hang with label on back)

Basic Guidelines

All work must be appropriate to be viewed by all audiences. We ask that artists do not exhibit nudes. Works must be appropriate for the location (subject, size, and safety).

All work must be original. No works previously exhibited at ESCAPE will be considered.

Specifications

Theme: Works submitted should represent the theme of “Community” and fall under one of the following categories:

 Faces: Examples of portraiture (individual or groups) depicting people in our community

 Places: Locations, landmarks, destinations and other places in our community

 Spirit: Works that portray a more artistic interpretation of community

Artwork may represent Danbury and nearby towns in our area.

All work must be ready for installation. Any work considered unsafe is not acceptable. 2-D works must be properly framed for hanging with wire on back. Wires must be securely fastened with hooks on the back of the frame. Wire must not extend above top of frame. No saw tooth or loop hangers permitted. Works that are not properly framed will not be accepted. Works should not exceed (36) inches in any direction.

Works in the following mediums should also be protected behind glass (or plexi-glass):

watercolor, printmaking, pastel, graphite and photography

Paintings on stretched canvas must be framed and properly wired for hanging.

3-D works (ceramics and sculpture) should not exceed (18) inches in any direction.

The Regional YMCA reserves the right to reject any and all works of art submitted for exhibition that do not meet the proper specifications as described above.
