The Cultural Alliance of Western Connecticut, in partnership with WHEELpassion, Inc. invited sculptors to a Creative Challenge: to design an original, one-of-a-kind award to be presented to title sponsor Josh Weeks, Dealer Principal for Danbury Audi for sponsorship of the inaugural Danbury Audi - Race4Scholars Criterium, held this summer in downtown Danbury.

Local contemporary artist David Boyajian who’s works depicts the marriage between industrial material and organic forms of sculptures in steel, bronze, and wood, won the Creative Challenge. The result is a sleek work of art that portrays a look of speed and elegance. Two traits synonymous and complementary of title sponsor Danbury Audi.

WHEELpassion is implementing a grassroots cycling development program to get underrepresented populations and young girls on bicycles beginning in middle school. One aspect of the program will help students learn how Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) disciplines apply to physical exercise and to the cycling industry. Students can then make connections to real-life situations and increase their academic performance.

The program’s desired outcome will award need and merit-based scholarships to college-bound high school graduates that intend to enroll in college as STEM or allied health majors.
