Inviting the community to participate in "WPKN SHORTS"

To be presented during the spring series of "MUSIC ON FILM"

WPKN and City Lights Gallery are inviting artists and filmmakers to submit short films for consideration to screen before the scheduled feature film. Submissions should be in DVD format to exceed no more than 30 minutes. Documentaries, comedy, fiction, commentary, animation and music videos welcome.

Marketing and Communications Director

The Westport Arts Center seeks an individual with proven marketing and communication management skills. The successful candidate will manage the development, implementation and output of the annual marketing and communications action plan across all departments. Primary responsibilities include the management and execution of a comprehensive marketing, communications and public relations program that will articulate WAC’s mission, enhance the organizations image and increase its reach within the community. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to work well independently, as well as be a collaborative member of a team-oriented environment. Film and Media Director

The Film and Media Director will be responsible for running all aspects of Film and Media Programming at the Westport Arts Center.  Responsibilities include managing four Film related events to ensure an annual cycle of Film programming that can nurture a local audience.
Directing and overseeing WYFF (The Westport Youth Film Festival), now in its 9th year; the world’s largest high school student film festival.
Manage and oversee courses in the New Media Lab education program.
We are looking for a candidate who can provide the continuity and vision necessary to foster sustained growth over several years, with the aim of developing Film and Media programs at WAC.

Art Therapist/Teaching Artist

Westport Arts Center seeks a skilled and innovative part-time art educator to deliver art classes and, specifically, therapeutic arts experiences to a wide range of special populations, including children with special needs, seniors, military veterans and hospital patients. This teaching artist will report to the Director of Education, and collaborate with the Westport Arts Center's education department to design, manage, and implement a variety of dynamic art programs and workshops in various settings.

Margaret Grimes Retrospective

A retrospective exhibition featuring a body of work spanning more than 40 years by landscape painter Margaret Grimes will run from Thursday, Feb. 14, through Thursday, March 14, 2013, at The Gallery at Higgins Hall on the WCSU Midtown campus, 181 White St. in Danbury. An opening reception will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Feb. 14 in the gallery. The public is invited to the reception and to view Grimes’ work. Gallery hours are Monday through Thursday from noon to 4 p.m.

Grimes also will discuss her work in an art slide lecture at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 5. The talk will be in Viewing Room 1 of White Hall on the WCSU Midtown campus. The public is invited.

Juried Photography Exhibition at Hygienic Art

Opening Night: Saturday, February 23, 7 to 10 pm

All photographers are invited to submit up to three works for consideration in this year’s juried photography exhibition at the Hygienic Art Galleries. This will be third iteration of The f-Stops Here. We have two talented artists lending their eyes and expertise for the exhibition. Co-founder/associate curator of the Alexy von Schlippe Gallery of Art and visual artist David Madasci will serve as our guest juror. Photographer and Associate Professor of Art at Connecticut College Ted Hendrickson will curate the selected pieces.
Cash Prizes will be awarded.
Submission info:
Artists may submit up to 3 pieces of black & white or color photography for consideration. All work must be for sale. No works previously shown at Hygienic will be accepted. All works must be suitably framed with wires and ready for hanging. All metal frames must have hangers and wire, NO CLIPS. Work submitted must not exceed 48” in either direction. All work must remain for the duration of the show. Hygienic will retain 30% of sales and collect 6% CT state sales tax. Hygienic will not be responsible for unclaimed work.

Fellowships last six weeks, and The Lighthouse Works provides studio space, housing, meals, a travel allowance and a stipend to defray expenses. The Elizabeth L. Mahaffey Arts Administration Fellowship annually recognizes one exceptionally accomplished Connecticut arts administrator with a $2,500 award to be used for professional development activities. To be eligible, administrators must be state residents employed by Connecticut nonprofit arts organizations (or involved in ongoing arts programs of nonprofit organizations, colleges and universities). Applicants must have at least seven years of professional arts administration experience, including three with their current organization. Individuals must be full-time residents of the state. Administrators employed as consultants, contractors or subcontractors are not eligible to apply. Unpaid and volunteer staff members are also ineligible.

This annual, juried photography competition is open to all residents of Connecticut and is highly regarded for excellence statewide. IMAGES 2013 is the 32nd annual competition and exhibition. IMAGES celebrates the art of photography in its many aspects, formats and technologies and encourages excellence among photographic artists. IMAGES is the only annual, statewide, professionally juried competition and exhibition open to all Connecticut photographers. All photographers with a passion and dedication to photography as an art form are invited to submit work for consideration by a distinguished panel of professionals. Megan Marden MFA '12

Painter, Megan Marden ( created the site CT ArtList ( to provide visibility and valuable information to working Connecticut visual artists. The website lists information on 155 (and counting) Connecticut galleries and art spaces. Additionally the website provides listings for arts employment, internships, grants and residencies. Calls for artists and exhibition opportunities statewide are updated on a regular basis.

The curated image bank currently features 18 artists from every corner of the state, and in all different stages of their careers. An overwhelming majority of the featured artists are graduates of Connecticut art schools.
