My work consists of oil, acrylic, and gouache paintings and four new memory drawings. The opening reception is on Saturday, April 14th from 3- 5pm. A MARRED GEOMETRY : the grid, the ever present grid – the underlying bones of interior and exterior space and the very structure of our daily life – marred by purpose, marred by process.
Mary Lou Alberetti’s ceramic sculptures draw inspiration from her extensive travels and borrow freely the elements from Moorish and Italian architecture. A timeless quality is generated in each piece through the application of multiple glazes and their subsequent firings in the kiln. The rich surfaces and variegated colors that are produced seem subdued and worn by time and weather. These textures are formed by Alberetti’s masterful understanding of clay, glazes and process and her keen awareness of how time erodes and conditions stone and soil and the hues that color them.
