Western Connecticut State University professors cheered the news Tuesday that the long-awaited Visual and Performing Arts Center has been granted state funding, with construction expected to begin this fall. article by Eileen Fitzgerald
WestConn President James Schmotter learned Tuesday morning that Gov. Dannel P. Malloy has approved bonding for the $80 million building, which has been on the university's wish list for 20 years and in planning for about eight.
Schmotter said he understood it was one of two "shovel-ready" projects in the Connecticut State University System that received Malloy's go-ahead.

The congratulations announcement states, "Over the last thirteen years this competition has grown to become one of most prestigious events in the field of portraiture today; and we are pleased to have the space to invite the top twenty finalist this year. With over 1,750 images entered, selecting a limited number was a challenging undertaking. Your work, O. Join the Tarrywile Park Authority in partnership with Polley Creates for the Second Annual Plein Air Festival. Tuesday thru Friday, Plein Air artists will be painting throughout the Park. Artists will be on the property from May 31st to June 3rd, with participants meeting at the Red Barn Environmental Center on Tuesday at 10:00 am for a welcome and tour. Once signed up, each artist will receive a schedule of events and support material, regardless of when you paint. If you are a plein air painter, studio artist or photographer who would like to participate in the Art Sale & Exhibit, please include your contact information in an email addressed to: PleinAirEvent2011@gmail.com, with Studio Artist, Plein Air or Photographer Submission in the subject line or call Lynne at 407-841-5644 for information and submission deadlines.
