CALL TO ARTISTS
The Art Gallery
at ESCAPE to the Arts is accepting entries of art work for the 1st
annual juried exhibition. Artists are invited to submit up to 2 original works of
art for consideration.
The exhibition is open to local and
regional artists working in the following media: oil, watercolor, acrylic,
printmaking, photography, ceramics, sculpture and mixed media.
The exhibition will run from March 22 to
May 2, 2014 in our 400 sq ft gallery within ESCAPE to the Arts at 293 Main St. Danbury,
CT.
Submission
Guidelines
Artists
must submit the following:
· Non-refundable
Entry Fee: $15 for one entry; $25 for two entries. Cash or check payable to Regional YMCA of Western CT.
· One or two original
works of art created within the last 3 years (ready to hang with label on back)
· Signed Entry Form
Basic Guidelines
All work must be appropriate to be viewed
by all audiences. We ask that artists do not exhibit nudes. Works must be appropriate for the location (subject, size, and safety).
All work must be original. No works
previously exhibited at ESCAPE will be considered.
Specifications
All work must be ready for installation.
Any work considered unsafe is not acceptable. 2-D works must be properly framed
for hanging with wire on back. Wires must be securely fastened with hooks on
the back of the frame. Wire must not extend above top of frame. No saw tooth or
loop hangers permitted. Works that are
not properly framed will not be accepted. Works should not exceed (36)
inches in any direction.
Works in the following mediums should also
be protected behind glass (or plexi-glass):
watercolor,
printmaking and photography
3-D works (ceramics and sculpture) should
not exceed (18) inches in any direction.
The Regional YMCA reserves the right to
reject any and all works of art submitted for exhibition that do not meet the
proper specifications as described above.
Awards
Cash prizes will be awarded to “best in category” in each of the
following categories: Painting, Printmaking, Photography, Sculpture and Mixed
Media. Winners will be notified on Friday, March 21st.
Juror
Lisa Scails: Lisa
is the Executive Director of the Cultural Alliance of Western Connecticut. She
is responsible for the development and oversight of the Cultural Alliance,
(formally the Housatonic Valley Cultural Alliance) a leader in supporting a
vibrant arts and culture community in Northern Fairfield
and Southern Litchfield Counties.
Sales
All work exhibited must be for sale. The
Regional YMCA (ESCAPE to the Arts) will handle sales of work and retain a 30%
commission on works sold as a result of the exhibit.
Art work must remain on display
through the duration of the exhibition including works that are sold.
Liability/Insurance
The Regional YMCA of Western Connecticut
nor any of its staff assumes no liability for any loss or damage to art work
during the jurying process, delivery or pick up, while on display, in storage or
in transit.
Artists must arrange for proper insurance
coverage for their work.
The Regional YMCA assumes the right to
photograph the work in the exhibition for publicity (both in print and online).
Delivery & Pick
Up Guidelines
Artist must deliver and pick up your art
work in person. If you are unable to, an agent may do so only with written
permission to drop off/pick up work and sign the waiver/release on the artist’s
behalf.

*There
is a $15/day storage fee for late pick up
